Hello! I'm a linux/mythtv newbie here. I've been trying to get a mythtv box set up all summer long using various distros (gentoo, knoppmyth, and FC3 and now FC 4). I almost got things working with Gentoo but that seemed to be very cumbersome. Knoppmyth was too easy. Then I stumbled upon the Fedora/myth how to site and have become comfortable following the tutorial there. Anyways.. I had a stable setup using FC3 until my motherboard died. When I was rebuilding the system, the new FC4 tutorial was out so I decided to use it. I have a stable box set up with one exception. I have no video from the cable on my pvr-150. I have installed the card in my windows box and it works wonderfully. I hooked up my Gamecube to the pvr-150s composite AND s-video ins and they both worked too. When I hook the cable into it, I get no signal. I have tried using the following commands:
    # /usr/lib/ivtv/ptune-ui.pl &
    # mplayer -vo xv /dev/video0
and changing to all the available inputs and channels and still get nothing. I've tried 0-8 using this command:
    # /usr/bin/ivtvctl -p 4
There aren't even any errors generated by the log.
The card is recognized using lspci -a. I tried hooking up a rabbit-ear antenna to see if I could pull a signal over the air and nothing.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something else (anything?)I can do to get this up and running? Thanks in advance!

Is it possibly a driver problem?

My first attempt at an install w/the PVR-150 I used the stable 0.2.0 ivtv driver and no go. I then used 0.3.8 and got the PVR-150 to work.

I'm sure there's a better way, but, just try:

    $locate ivtv

You'll probably get a bunch of hits, but, at least some of the hits will have the version number after it.

You could get a more up to date version at the ivtv homepage or try "rpm pbone's" website. You can use pbone's search by distro for ivtv and download the version of the rpm you may need.

    I was running 3.8.

    I SOLVED THE PROBLEM!

I was following the wilson guide for FC4 and for one reason or another it didn't install the driver for the PVR-150. I dl'ed it from the hauppage web site, copied it to /lib/modules and symlinked it. After restarting X (did I need to do this?) I fired up mythtv and it works like a charm! I still have a little bit of tweaking to do (there is a small blue bar across the very top of the screen) but that's about it.

Regarding the bar.. do you think that's a ivtv issue or a video out issue (GForce FX 5600)?

Not sure which one it's an issue with but I put this command in /home/myth/.xsession :
    Code:
    xvattr -a XV_COLORKEY -v 0

That will turn the blue bar black, and it works fine. I should note I also execute mythfrontend from .xsession

Try overscan in setup > tv settings > playback.
