This document (hopefully) gives helpful details as to the usage of
nuv2disc to burn a dvd from tv shows orginially recorded from a
software encoder tv tuner card.
NOTE: This document gives details for a software encoder card, not a
hardware encoder card. An example of a software encoder card is
the ATI TV Wonder VE.
After a successful install of nuv2disc you should have hopefully added
an entry to your Mythtv mainmenu.xml file. This entry allows you
to run the program "Eboxy" which is a frontend for all of the shell
scripts which work together to make a successful dvd cdrom.
1. Select Eboxy from the mainmenu. (A window should open with
eboxy, and 4 different buttons: "Create a dvd" "Create a kvcd" "utils"
and "Exit nuv2disc")
2. Activate the button labled "Create a DVD" (the window should
change to show the following: "Select Files" - greyed out, "DVDStatus"
- greyed out, "Preview" - greyed out, "Write to DVD" - greyed out,
"Convert to mpeg" - active (blue), and the back button.
NOTE: many options are greyed out, this is NOT an error. They are
merely greyed out because you have no use for them yet. So in
other words, you must create an image to burn before you can preview it!
3. Activate the button labled "Convert to mpeg" (this will open a
window where you can select which tv shows you want to convert so they
can later be burned to a cd. This is use a program called
nuvexport. You must convert the files before they are usable to
be burned, this is the main difference between a software and hardware
encoder, with a hardware encoder you DO NOT need to convert the files,
they are already mpeg2).
4. Select each tv show you want to convert, so if there's a
series of shows you want to burn on a dvd select all of them, (it can
take a great amount of time to convert these tv shows) now just
activate the button labled "Convert".
5. Once the files are done converting you can go back to the
"Create a DVD" menu and the "Select Files" button will be active (blue).
6. Activate the button labled "Select Files" and from that menu
find all of the .mpeg files which you want on the final dvd, (just make
sure you do no exceed the limit for space on the dvd) activate the
button labled "Next". (This step will make all of those mpeg movies
into a series of selections on the final dvd menu, complete with
chapters and such, and all of the output of the different processes
(mplex, dvdwizard, etc.) are displayed in "DVDStatus").
7. If you go back to the "Create a DVD" menu you can find
"DVDStatus" active (blue). This is so you can go back and you can
monitor the progress of the process which is being carried out to
create the actual iso image.
8. Now that the image is made you can activate the "Preview"
button in the "Create a DVD" main window to make sure the final product
will be what you want.
9. Activate the button labled "Write to DVD" to finish the entire
process and have a dvd cdrom of your favorite tv shows.
