I am hoping someone can help

I have a Sony KDL32W5500 LCD television which is very fussy about which Mpeg2 files to display off my network, and will not display the .mpg files created by Mythtv

If I run command mythtranscode directly from a terminal prompt. the resulting .mpg file is correctly displayed by the Sony TV, so I know that this process works. The command used is:-

mythtranscode --profile autodetect --infile /home/mythtv/test.mpg --outfile /home/videos/test.mpg --mpeg2

I would like to be able to run Mythtranscode from within Mythtv, but the Mythtranscode default option creates an output file type of .nuv

Can anyone tell me how to make the Mythtranscode output file type default to mpeg2 ?

In the transcode profile setup, there is a "lossless" option, which causes MythTV to clip out the commercials, and repair the orphaned P-frames around the cuts. This is the same as the '--mpeg2' option on the command line. My guess is that mythtranscode is outputting PS files from a lossless transcode, but your TV only accepts TS files. I know at least on the PS3, MPEG2TS files are the "generic container" that the unit will accept just about anything through, while it is far more restrictive over the formats supported through other containers.

Many thanks for your reply. I am still a relativley new user of Mythtv and have not located where to find the 'transcode profile setup'. Is it in backend setup , frontend setup or in a configuration file on the system ? Any help would be most appreciated as I am determined to get this great software to work as intended

I have been able to answer my own question !

The 'lossless' option is to be found on the frontend menu under Utilities/setup >> Setup >> TV settings >> Recording profiles >> Transcoders >> Autodetect from Mpeg2

Mythtv is now happily automatically transcoding my recordings and the resulting .mpg can be watched on my ageing networked Sony KDL32W5500 television

If it is of interest to anyone, I have a newer Sony KDL40ex723 television which will display the .mpg file created by Mythtv, prior to transcoding

The only irritation on both TVs is that it is the file name that displays on the TV, rather than the television programme name (which makes it harder to find the programme that you want to watch !)
