I recently installed Mythbuntu 8.04. It works for the most part, but there are some troublesome stability issues. Once I solve one problem, another one appears. In order to try to solve these problems, I upgraded my packages to the nightly "fixes" build, which actually made things worse. Using pinning, I tried to downgrade back to stable but the random lockups remained.

So now I'm looking at starting over (again) and I have read that Mythdora is a good distro for people who want a system that "just works." However most of the reviews I've read are from Mythdora 4 and earlier Mythbuntu when it was pretty new.

So how about it? Should I reinstall Mythbuntu or go with Mythdora?

I've set up my MythTV server twice in the last 6-9 months and the easiest time I've had of it was installing Ubuntu and then installing the MythTV package appropriate for my setup - which I run a backend server with Minimyth frontend (Minimyth is not a package).

During both installs I tried Knoppmyth, MythBuntu and MythDora and found that in the amount of time I spent trying to get everything to work correctly in the distro specific versions I could have been long down the road with just a straight install.

Besides, you may find other things to do with you Linux box besides just record TV and a full install of Linux will generally be better setup for it, assuming you're like me and don't have Linux on other computers in the home.

Well I tried Mythdora. The setup was quick and easy, except who needs 4 window managers on a PVR???

One thing they overlooked, however, in Mythdora 5 is firewire support. So it's back to Mythbuntu.
