Thread: Kworld ATSC-110 for 40 bucks?

Hey all,

Tiger direct currently has the kworld ATSC-110 for 40 dollars after rebate. I know it doesn't have an mpeg-2 encoder, so analog is on the CPU, but for that price, is it a good deal?
Can anyone who has it let me know what they think of the quality of it and how they like it?

I know it's a bit touchy to get it to work with Myth, but I'm not afraid to tweak around until it works.

No complaints with mine. It was a bit of a pain to get the card to work and tune ATSC HD but it does work fine. You'll need a more recent version of MythTV (from source) to use the baseband (S-Video and Composite) inputs properlly. My 1.3 Ghz Duron server has no trouble encoding nuv formatted video from these inputs, with very little, under 5% CPU utilization - so even though everyone says it sucks because it's a software encoder, it seems to be just fine. Video quality is better than my PVR-150, but that's probably just because my PVR-150 isn't configured properly or something (lots of strange artifacts and spikes of noise requiring frequent system cold reboots as a temporary workaround).

Forget the remote control though. The patch that was submitted for the remote was never really completed and is horribly unresponsive. Having the PVR-150 for me is worth it just for the great remote!
