I have a bunch of video files and subdirectories in the video directory specified in the media library settings for video (/var/lib/mythtv/videos). I have nothing in the coverart, fanart, banners etc directories. When I go to the media library option and choose videos none of the files or directories under /var/lib/mythtv/videos appear. I just get "no files found." Ignore is unchecked for the extension involved (mp4). Is there some process I have to run to add the files or should they just be showing up automatically? I had no issues with my files showing up in the pictures or music modules. Thanks.

You should add them to the database. In version 0.21 I could do it through the frontend->settings/configuration->(something with video) and then it would start scanning. In the latest version I only found a way to do it via mythweb. In the movies library part of mythweb in the upper right corner there is a 'scan collection' button.

In 0.22 goto menu (keyboard m) in the videos screen and it is first on the list

And download the "metadata" or sometimes you need to enter the video #manually from the IMDB web site -

    The Internet Movie Database (IMDb)

Also if you have directories you need to edit the view options. Something like disable flat file etc...

Ahh OK 'M' was the thing I was missing.

I got the files added now, and found a script that went out and pulled images and metadata from IMDB for all the videos (this one: fill_mythvideo_metadata.pl - fill-mythvideo-metadata - Project Hosting on Google Code), but how do I get MythTV to display the pictures in the coverart folder? Or is there a way to retrieve this data from within the frontend? I notice there are paths to scripts that are supposed to be able to retrieve this data but I don't see where to access them from the frontend.

This is all done from the frontend. You shouldn't have to do anything from a shell.

And how does it happen from the front end? Scan for changes doesn't do anything for metadata/coverart and there's no option in the menu to do it. If I select a video file I only get an option to play it, no option to try to retrieve data for it.

Sorry about that, should have given more info.

From a keyboard should be letter "I"/"i" don't think it's case sensitive.

Or from a remote. The "info" key on my remote maps like this -

That will bring up a dialog box with options. If you want the option to enter the video number the "OK" key will bring up and OSD keyboard.
