Arrow WinTV HVR-850

Brand new Mythbuntu user here. I haven't even got the software installed yet. I'm just reading up on how to do it.

All I have been able to find so far regarding my WinTV HVR-850 is a guide that indicates I have to compile stuff from source. I don't think I'm ready for that. Surely there is a way to get Mythbuntu up and running with the WinTV HVR-850 more easily... I just can't find any help.

Anyone want to point me to the right how-to? Thanks

let me ask another way - can I use MythTV (Mythbuntu) with the HVR-850 without having to compile a driver from source?

Where can I find a how-to for the HVR-850? Thanks.

It's not that hard to compile something from source.

If you have an 'how to', I suggest that it's explained there what you have to do. Normally you need to download the source, unpack, switch to the folder in an terminal, type "./configure", type "make", type "sudo make install".

And if you're lucky, that's all.

What about your other tuners, are they these ones: Hauppauge PVR-250 - MythTV ?

Thanks for the tips on compiling from source. That seems like something I can handle.

Yes, those PVR250 tuners are my other 3.

Good, I'm lucky to hear.
But it would be good having a more datailed 'how to' specialised on this driver because it's possible that you have to install some packages first or something..

If you speak German this link could help in general: Programme kompilieren ? Wiki ? ubuntuusers.de If not, I'm sure there ara planty of similar guides written in English.

To the other cards: Sound like they should work 'out of the box', without have to do anything (like compiling). You could have a first try with 'kaffeine', it's very easy to watch TV with it and therefore great for first tests.

Hope I could help you.

p.s. I had some troubles with the first steps, too. I have an DVB-C card.
You should defenitely start with kaffeine or sth similar to test if card works properly, before you try it with mythtv.

And I'm sure you'll find enough information about compiling, even if you don't speak German. But with a bit luck, it's really that easy as I told.

I'm pressing my thumbs, as we say in Germany.
