Default Hauppauge PVR-150, mpeg-2 encoder

I bought the Hauppauge PVR-150 because it has a built-in mpeg-2 encoder. So the encoding should be done by the capture card, right, and not by the PC's processor. But still my AMD Athlon X2 processor works at full speed during the encoding process, the whole time. I can see this by the System Monitor. Is that all right, or can I make a change in the settings somewhere?
Jack.

It does the encoding on signals coming in its inputs (ie while recording live tv from coax, s-video, or composite), taking the burden off the processor while recording. It does not, for example, use its encoder when you transcode material already on your system. I believe this may be what you thought it did?
