Default LiveTV - Change channel, record

Hello,

I have 4 questions regarding MythTV frontend and channels/recording that I can't find in the Wiki:

1) Is there a key to start recording *immediately*? I was watching USA and came by one of the commercials for RAW wrestling, the one with a dentist. Just so happens, he's my dentist. I hit "r" immediately out of a guess. It didn't start recording automatically - but, for some reason, it's recording everything i've been watching all day.

2) So I'm watching live TV and press "M" for the channel guide. There are lots of options to record a program, but how do I just tune to that channel NOW, without recording it?

3) Is there any way, while watching live TV, to type in a channel and go right to it?

4) Is there any way to tune to a specific channel, immediately, via the command line? Specifically, the computer which I have MythTV on is not my main computer, so I've besn using the program guide in MythWeb and then tuning to that channel on the keyboard of the second computer. I'd like to add a line of PHP code to MythWeb so that when viewing a program, there's an option to tune to that channel immediately.

Thanks for any help.

There's a setting in the frontend to automatically switch to a selected channel, rather than the default of selecting the program. Alternatively, you can browse channels by pressing up/down while in fullscreen mode (press Select/Enter to switch to that channel).

There's a setting in the frontend to do just that from the Guide. I don't know if it works/applies to fullscreen TV.

Two better options: 1) Most people use a headless frontend, meaning access to that machine has to happen somehow besides a traditional keyboard/mouse. In this case, the perfect solution is VNC, which will give you control over the frontend through your network. It's cross-platform, too, so you can VNC from a Windows/Mac box to your Myth frontend. 2) You can turn on telnet access, which would allow you to change channels, etc. from a remote machine. It's clunky, compared to VNC or an actual keyboard, but it works.

I still can't find any documentation about those settings to automatically go the a channel, and can't find them. Can anyone tell me where they're located?

I appreciate the advice, but I don't use VNC for a reason. My laptop doesn't support dual monitors. So I use the extra desktop for MythTV and use that monitor.

So is there any way to access this programatically or via the command line?

For now, I'm just using ivtv-tune in a shell exec to change the channel, but this leaves mythtv out of sync - it still thinks it was on the last channel.
