Lirc and Video Stuttering

Hi All

First of all sorry for my english.
I need your help, i'm using mythubuntu 8.04 with homebrew serial remote.

When i use the remote in live tv and in Recording place, the video start to stuttering, only when i use the remote on com2 ( or com1 same thing ).
Seems that the cpu goes to 100% stopping the video, but this happen only in mythtv.

Could you help me pls.

Hi,

I have just solved the same problem on my MythBuntu 8.04.
Actually, the issue has already been addressed and hopefully will be fixed in next release of MythTV. The problem is in MythTV calling gnome-screensaver-command every time remote button is pressed. This ends up causing XOrg process CPU usage to jump up to 100% for some time resulting in video shuttering.

So you have a few options:
1. Wait for new MythTV version
2. Patch it yourself
3. Do a little trick by disabling X screensaver and replacing gnome-screensaver-command with bogus program of just symbolic link to /bin/true

I personally preferred to write a little C++ program that does no allow screensaver to be poked more often that once a minute. You can try it from here (please don't consider it as advertisement, I just wanted to share the solution that worked for me with other people that may have the same problem).
