Cyberlink USB Remote w/LIRC?
|

I recently aquired a Cyberlink USB remote control, and have been attempting to get it working under KnoppMyth (stock 5A16, myhtv .18.1, lirc 0.71).
It works partially out of the box (numbers & enter), but nothing else.
The dmesg output calls it a "TopSeed Tech Corp. USB IR Combo Device".
It looks like a MCE remote, but compiling the LIRC modules as such yields no joy. I also tried StreamZap modules, and nothing. :?
I'm wondering which LIRC config to use.
Has anyone had any luck with something like this, or should I just break out the sodering iron and build my own IR receiver? (My soldering skills are a bit dodgy). |

Is there some way to redefine the remaining keys? As I said, it sort of works, and I may not even need LIRC, I'm not sure.
And my soldering skills are even worse that I remembered, so the homebew option is out... |

Yes, run the irrecord applet. Make sure you've finished all applications that access /dev/lirc
first before doing this. Then just follow the instructions given to you by irrecord. Copy the resulting
file to /etc/lircd.conf.
More info here:

Hope this helps.

Hi TheLoneIguana, can you update me on how far you got with the Cyberlink Remote Control.
I also have that remote and managed to map most of the keys using xev to get the keycodes and xmodmap to map to something useful but some keys (mainly the ones at the top) do not show up with xev. This is due to the remote outputting keypresses to both /dev/input/event0 and /dev/input/event1. I had a look at using LIRC but didnt seem to work for me.
Cheers,
Richard

I too could never get the keys in the white square to work (except the 'back' button, I think).
I did a little snooping on the remote, downloading a demo of Cyberlink's media center program. It uses some sort of memory-resident program to intercept the keys and launch the appropriate program. So at least I know that the buttons work. Only with their software, though.
I have resigned myself to using another PVR software package, since Myth was giving me more problems that I had the patience to deal with (wireless networking, remote control, on and on). Perhaps when I get some hardware with more horsepower I may give it another go.
And I muddle throught with the Cyberlink remote and use a cheapo wireless keyboard when I need to for other functions.
Very little luck with a purchased serial IR receiver, so the next thing to try might me an actual MCE remote. |

The Cyberlink remote that comes with the Sapphire Theatrix 550 PRO card and similar ATI cards is actually manufactured by TOPSEED.
URL:www.jpcco.com.tw
The model # is JRC-014 and can be found on their webpages under WIRELESS / HID - WIRELESS - POINTERS
It's functions are almost exactly like an MCE 2005 remote. That's because TOPSEED is the manufacturer of the MCE remotes also !
Contact their technical support to get the keycodes. Remember that it's a dual device with HID. It transmits Keyboard commands as well as Mouse commands. That's how most of the middle buttons in the white area work. You can use an MCE 2005 remote setup in most programs such as Girder and HIP and it will function easily.
Hope this helps !
