FFWD/RW in the "videos" section. –
04-04-2008,03:24 PM When I record something and play it back from the recordings menu in Myth, I can use the right and left arrows to skip forward and back. When I move the same file to the Videos folder for storage, either of those buttons just exits the video (actually, pretty much anything exits except the space bar, which pauses.) Is there are way to fast forward/rewind in the videos section? This is important, as it is where I am going to keep all of my permanent recordings.

04-04-2008,09:42 PM I have no problems fastforwarding and rewinding or direct seeking, skipping, etc. using the Internal player for mythvideo. What player are you using with mythvideo? The default on most systems is mplayer, which uses different keys than the internal player, unless you are using a remote and setup LIRC to make them pretty similar...

04-05-2008,12:23 AM I am using all standard settings. I have not been able to find a set of hotkeys for the default player (mplayer, I believe) that works. Various sites have right and left arrows or pgup/pgdn for these functions, but each of those crashes the player back to the video menu.
I have attemtped each key on the keyboard, in sequence, and none of them have done any sort of scan, ffwd, rw, skip, etc.
What keys should I be using? Is there something that needs to be set up?
Thank you in advance.

04-05-2008,12:32 AM I don't know off the top of my head. I use the internal player so the keys are all the same as when I watch recordings (plus I prefer the functionality of the internal player over mplayer) When I get to my computer I can check, but you can check yourself by looking at the mplayer man page:

You shouldn't need to setup anything... what distro are you using? Maybe somehow mplayer doesn't have window focus when you are launching it...Code:man mplayer

04-05-2008,02:52 AM To clarify,I don't know for sure that it's mplayer. It was my understanding that the internal player is mplayer. Also, let me make sure that we are talking about the same thing here:
Recordings section, everything works fine.
Videos section is what I'm having problems with.
As for version, it's whatever the current one is. I keep things up-to-date where-ever possible.
Lastly, how do I launch the videos command line?
Thanks for all the help.

04-05-2008,03:56 AM I get that your recordings work fine and your videos don't. That's why I'm telling you you are probably using two different players...

Go into your player settings to see which player you are using. You can set the default player and by file extension type. You can't however, change the player used to view recordings. Recordings always use the internal player. You can only change them for mythvideo. For more info on mythvideo, configuring players and the internal player:

Chances are, you are using different players for recordings and videos if you haven't changed anything. To set the mythvideo player to use the Internal player you just type in "Internal" for the setting.
From a terminal, you can "cd" into the directory that contains your videos and then type:
or you can use a different player, like vlc or xine. Even if you are using an external player such as mplayer it is still weird that it isn't responding to any keyboard commands... I use mplayer specifically for a couple of files that the internal player has problems with and I have it setup with my remote just fine ...Code:mplayer <filename>
And you still didn't tell me what distro you are using, just that you are using the latest version of myth...
