Thread: Exploring options, questions first

Hello, and thank you for your time if you choose to respond.

I've been noodling this idea of MythTV/Mythbuntu for about a year now, and I've decided to dedicate a little more time to this. I have some questions before I devote a ton of time and money to this project to see if it's going to even be possible.

I will be using this with Comcast HD (basic + premium channels). I want to skip Comcast's DVR box altogether and just have the HD box plug into the computer to record the shows and set recordings. All the posts from Google I've found regarding Comcast and MythTV date back to 2010 when they were doing the digital conversion. See below for my introductory questions:



1) Is it possible to record HD from Comcast (premium channels as well)?
2) Scale of 1-10, ease of setup to accomplish?
3) What would the budget be on a project like this as a fresh build or pre-built? Any pre-built recommendations?
4) Updated, easy to understand, installation instructions for the latest 0.24.2 version?

You're going to be interested most in option 4, falling back to option 1 for any content not marked copy-freely.

Looks like Comcast has them, but having one disables OnDemand and a technician has to come out and install it:

So basically, it's not going to happen the way I want if I'm reading it correctly, right?
