Thread: Commercial removal question

I've searched the howto's and wikis for the proper way to do commercial removal, and I'm not clear if the "best" way is to flag the commercials and transcode (options built into the setup) or run a script (like the removecommercials.sh script I've seen) after the video is captured.

As I look at the removecommercials.sh script, I note that it already runs the "mythcommflag -f" command; does that mean I DON'T have to do commercial flagging before this script is run?

The proper way to do commercial removal is to play the recording in mythfrontend, enter edit mode with 'e', and manually clip out the commercials you want to remove. Mythcommflag is not considered reliable enough by the people who wrote it to trust it with permanent removal of commercials. You can load the predicted commercial list with 'z', and use those as a guide to set the exact cut placement.

Thanks. Disappointing, but not surprising.

To get the predicted commercial list, I suspect that mythcommflag still has to flag potential commercials, but I'm even having a hard time getting that to work. I've checked the option to run commercial flagging in mythtv-setup, and I've enabled commercial flagging in the frontend, but nothing still gets flagged. I'm obviously missing some checkbox somewhere.

Is there a list of options that need to be enabled to get commercial flagging to run?
