I have had to redo my machine on several occassions. MythTV now thinks it has several recordings for which there are no recording files. If I attempt to delete the program from the mythweb interface, the immediately pop back up on a refresh.
So, how do I remove these entries - or how do I remove all entries (I can delete any recordings I presently have) and 'start fresh'?

Have you tried deleting it from the frontend? I've had phantom recordings due to lack of reception in the past which would give a "no file found" error if I tried to play it, but the frontend had no difficulty deleting it.
To delete records manually, you can use PHPmyAdmin and look at the "recorded" table in the mythconverg database and delete entries as desired. See http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Recorded_table. If your not familiar with mySQL, be careful and backup your database first
Please do not tinker in the database on your own. There were some deletion problems in the original 0.23 release that lead to a change in the protocol and a 0.23.1 point release. If you are still on 0.23, try updating and see if that resolves your issue. If you are running 0.24, you can use find_orphans.py to clean up orphaned database entries and your recording folders.
Is there an easy way to check which version (.23 v .24) I'm running? I've done several install/tear downs getting my system up and running with the capture boards I'm using. Back end status doesn't tell the version.
Additionally, if I'm at .23 I won't be upgrading to .24 (I had issues with whichever version I'm not running).
The front end tells me that removing a program doesn't actually delet it - this proved true when I went back to mythweb and saw the same shows.
So, if .24 is on my system, what do I do with the script? I save is via nano (after pasting the info) and then I'll need to set it to executable (how?) and then run (from where)?

The script will only work with 0.24. Have you tried upgrading to 0.23.1 to see if it resolves your deleting issues?

Solved -
pressing D from the recordings menu is the part I was missing. All is well.
ok, i still have 2 phantom programs; I'm running .23 with the details above.
I don't know how to delete recordings from the front end - it specifically states that programs removed aren't deleted.
I'd really like to get rid of these 2 items - any help?
